Artist Statement
Statement
My work conveys messages from memories rendered as images. In these pieces, spatial structures, nature, and contemporary figures appear together. The drawings I make often serve as meticulous blueprints, and the paint layered over them creates new spaces that shape the entire canvas. Through these constructed surfaces, we experience scenes where traditional symbols like haetae or cheonrok, or fragments of ancient Western architecture, coexist with natural landscapes. Through this feedback between time and space, I visualize the structures of cities, people, nature, and architecture within a single frame. By capturing everyday emotions and contemporary figures occupying changing times and places in urban and natural settings through painting and video, I seek to express a time-travel of memory via virtual spaces where daily life and artistic work breathe together. The images, composed as messages of memory, emerge as complete spaces for contemplation.
